Sunrise Fencing CLUB
Roddy, a passionate fencing teacher, approached me with a vision for his fencing club’s logo. Discussions continued as I learned more about fencing, and what these symbols meant to him. We worked together over a couple of weeks to ensure the vision he had was realized.
The basic crest, envisioned as a shoulder patch, is the easiest to read and reproduce on a smaller scale.
The Spanish fencer , on the left, stands tall ready to deflect the blade of the Italian fencer engaging on the right.
The sun is inspired by medieval representations of the sun. The ground, in shadow, reflects the sun but also invokes a sense of the balance and duality found in the upper portion.
In the primary logo we see the title of the fencing club.
The name Sunrise Fencing Club honors Roddy’s friend and sparring partner who has passed.
Here we see the name in a strong Medieval inspired font, that stands out in a sunny yellow contrasted over the early morning shadow.
Simplicity and immediate impact are favored in the secondary logo. The name of the fencing club is larger and more striking with focus now shifting to the fencers above.
